On Photography
Meeting the truth of a person and being able to capture
something of that truth in a portrait is exhilarating. Technical
and creative skills are not enough. To be aware of the person
you are with and present to them is also a prerequisite for such
images. This demands a lot of the photographer and it is
often hard to do when the natural light is changeable, children are
non-compliant or someone is feeling self conscious or nervous about
being photographed (to name but a few variables!). My work
has developed over the past fourteen years in such a way that I
find that these three skills have come together more and more
consistently.
Capturing the mystery and depth of a person or place is a
passion but I also love to take more immediate images that focus on
colour, pattern, repetition and humour.
I do hope that you will enjoy viewing the photographs I have
taken.
